Helping to look after the Queen Charlotte Track
Interislander is behind the Queen Charlotte Track Land Cooperative (QCTLC) every step of the way, so that the track stays available to hikers and bikers who want to explore the extraordinary Marlborough Sounds. We also offer track pass-holders a discount.
About the Queen Charlotte Track
The Queen Charlotte Track winds through 73kms of the Marlborough Sounds’ most spectacular scenery. Based on a network of pioneer bridle trails, it runs from Ship Cove (Meretoto) in the north to Anikiwa in the south.
The track offers a blend of coastal scenery, ancient rainforest, regenerating native bush and farmland. Native birds provide the soundtrack, and dolphins and seals can often be spotted in the surrounding waters. On foot, the track takes three to five days to complete. Biking cuts the time down to two or three days. One-day walks and rides are possible too, using access points and water transport.
What is the Queen Charlotte Track Land Cooperative?
The Queen Charlotte Track Land Cooperative is a partnership that includes the Department of Conservation, Marlborough District Council, a Māori land trust and 10 private landowners who generously make their land available for hiking and biking.
The trust runs an ongoing programme of work to carry out maintenance and improvements, including native tree planting and shelter construction. Since 2012, Interislander has been helping to fund this essential work.
