Alternatively fueled vehicles
Safety of passengers and crew is our top priority at Interislander.
We collect information on 'alternatively fueled' vehicles, including electric, hybrid, hydrogen and LPG/CNG, to understand how many of these vehicles are travelling with us and to ensure they are loaded in appropriate areas of our ferries.
If you are bringing a plug-in electric vehicle onboard you will need to avoid using rapid charging for at least 2 hours before check in.
If your electric vehicle has been modified or damaged in a collision we may not carry it.
Please note, there are no charging facilities on board. The nearest charging stations to our terminals are:
- Picton - Z, 101 High Street. Also Havelock and Blenheim. NZTA Electric charging facilities map
- Wellington - Mevo, Queens Wharf and Grey Street, and there are plenty of charging facilities in the surrounding suburbs. NZTA electric vehicle charging facitilities map Wellington.
Hydrogen powered vehicles will be carried in the open air to ensure there is no build up of gases.
