Measuring your vehicle
It is important that you give us an accurate measure of how long your vehicle and any towed vehicle is when you book. Let us know when you book if you have a bike rack or anything else that extends the length of the vehicle.
We need to ensure we have sufficient space for all the vehicles booked on a sailing. During our peak season we have had to leave vehicles behind as people haven't entered the correct length of vehicles in their booking and we haven't been able to fit all vehicles on board.
If, at check in, your vehicle is longer than booked, you will be charged for the additional length. If there is no space available for your longer vehicle you may need to move to another sailing at your cost.
Length of vehicle when you book
If you are driving a car, SUV or ute on board we allow 5.5 metres in our booking system and you don't need to measure.
If you have a van, truck, motorhome or horse truck we do require you to enter an accurate length and don't forget to add anything such as a bike rack that extends your vehicle length. Please enter the length to the nearest 0.5 metres in the vehicle section of our online booking system.
Bike racks and items carried on the roof
If you are travelling with a bike rack on the rear of a car, SUV or ute type select "Yes" to the bike rack question when you book. We will allow extra space and you won't be charged.
If you have a canoe, paddle board or surfboard on your car roof include the full length in the measurement if it is longer than your vehicle.
Towed vehicles
If you are towing a trailer, caravan, horse float or boat, measure it separately from your car/ute/SUV. Make sure you measure from the tow ball to include the draw bar.
If you are towing a boat measure from the tow ball, including the draw bar, and make sure you allow for the overhang of the outboard motor.
We "check" your vehicle length at check in
We will check your vehicle measurements when you check in.
You will notice a camera and lines painted by the check-in booth. If your vehicle is longer than you booked we will charge you for the additional length or we may not have space on the ferry for your vehicles. Check our Terms and Conditions.
How to measure your vehicle
Campervan or motorhome
Measure the length of the campervan or motor home and round to the nearest 0.5 metre. If you have a bike rack or anything that extends the length of the vehicle please include in the overall measure.
Caravan
Measure from the towball. Make sure you include the length of the draw bar as well as the caravan itself. Include the length of a bike rack if you are travelling with one.
Boat
If you are towing a boat make sure you include not only the draw bar (measure from the tow ball) but also any overhang from the outboard motor.
Horse float
Again, with a horse float, make sure you measure from the tow ball connection to the back of the vehicle.
Trailer
Measure from the towball to the end of the trailer to ensure you include the tow bar.
